Many clients, particularly overseas, require a descriptive package to show their staff and senior people the ‘look and feel’ of the projects we are designing. In this case, the client is Aljazeera in Doha.

Aesthetics are essential, especially for a Newsroom which will be seen on air. Renderings and furniture need to be clearly understood at the completion of the design stage and before construction starts. The following was used in a presentation with Aljazeera to clarify functional and visual concepts.

RT America has contracted with LAWSON for the renovation of a 30,000 sq. ft. space. The scope will include 4 ‘on-air’ studios, 3 or 4 production control rooms, and workstations for up to 90 people. Planning includes an independent mechanical system for the floor, UPS for all technical equipment, and a full back-up generator for 24/7 operation.

WTXF-TV wanted to stay on- air while replacing every inch of its 80,000 sq-foot building in downtown Philadelphia. The renovation would mean removing every wall and finish; replacing the roof and existing electrical service; creating two-story space; and more.

AARP broadcast facility renovation opens up the views and keeps an eye on future needs. In the AARP 12,000 sq-ft facility, the group wanted the equipment to represent forward thinking, and with the exception of two studios, the entire plant was rebuilt.

Bruce Lawson and Lawson & Associates Architects win "New studio or RF technology — station" award for their work with AARP.

The Brookings Institution opened a broadcast television/radio studio in September 2001 to provide live and taped interviews by its scholars giving analysis of breaking news to news outlets worldwide. The original analog-based facility continued to show its value in 2009 when more than 1000 interviews were conducted that year.

With the opening of the new floor, the most dramatic innovation introduced was that the assignment desk, the beats, the situation room, "John King USA," the political unit and bureau management all share a single common floor.

The CNN Washington Bureau expanded its operation onto a new floor of its building in April 2010. The D.C. Bureau's new 8th-floor operation will be used primarily as an open work area for the bureau's assignment desk, political coverage unit and show staffs.

CNN isn’t saying much about the look of the studios it is building for its new CNN Election Center in Washington, D.C. But massive monitor walls and touchscreen graphics that have been the centerpiece of its recent coverage will play a major role.

Situated in the new space—which holds 109 monitors and 2,000 feet of cabling— upon entrance from the left side is the first "magic wall," which is one of CNN’s two 82-inch touch screens from Perceptive Pixel.

A peek at the multimillion-dollar state-of-the-art space inside the network's DC headquarters. Come November 6, this room will be CNN central for the cable channel’s election-night reporting—and a few months later for its inauguration coverage.

As networks look for ways to better juggle their online, mobile and social media efforts with their on-air coverage, new sets will play an important, conducive role in keeping all the balls flying in the air at the same time on Election Night.

CNN offered its viewers a new and innovative "look" in the network's presentation of the Nov. 6 election returns. The event marked the first time the cable network's new 2,200-square foot Washington D.C. HD studio facility was used for election coverage.

Lawson & Associates, Architects is pleased to announce that they have been selected as architect for the relocation of Aljazeera's 35,000 square-foot Washington, DC broadcast facility at 1200 New Hampshire Avenue, NW.

As expected, ESPN and the Southeastern Conference will launch the SEC Network in August 2014. Coming out of the gate, the SEC Network will present over 1,000 events annually, 450 on television, across football, basketball and Olympic-style sports, the balance on digital platforms.
